Breast implants
Breast reconstruction is surgery to rebuild a breast's shape after a mastectomy. It cannot give a woman back her breast - a reconstructed breast does not have natural sensations. However, the surgery offers a result that looks like a breast. Most women who had breast reconstruction are glad they did. In breast reconstruction, a surgeon forms a breast mound by using an implant or tissues from the belly, back or buttocks. Implants are silicone sacs filled with salt water or silicone gel. The type of reconstruction you get depends on your body type, age and cancer treatment.
Histrelin Implant
Vantas™ (histrelin implant) is a sterile non-biodegradable, diffusion-controlled reservoir drug delivery system designed to deliver histrelin continuously for 12 months upon subcutaneous implantation. The Vantas implant contains 50 mg of histrelin acetate. Histrelin acetate is a synthetic nonapeptide analogue of the naturally occurring gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) or luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LH-RH). The sterile Vantas implantation device (provided with the implant) is...
Cochlear Implants
Cochlear (KO-klee-er) implants are pieces of electronic equipment that are used to help a severe-to-profound, binaural (bi-NAW-rull) hearing loss. A severe-to-profound, binaural hearing loss is when you do hear very little or not at all in both ears. You may be born with this kind of hearing loss or it can happen over time. Cochlear implants are used when hearing aids or other hearing devices do not help your hearing loss. They take the sounds you hear, and change them into special electrical signals. Your hearing may not be perfect, but with time, you may be able to understand these sound signals. With a cochlear implant, you wear a plastic ear piece with a tiny microphone. A chord sometimes attaches this to a speech/sound box worn on your belt or in a pocket. An internal receiver (listening device) and group of tiny wires are surgically put behind your eardrum near your cochlea (KO-klee-aw). The cochlea is the primary hearing organ. The internal receiver communicates with another round plastic coil piece that is worn on the outside of your ear.
Breast reconstruction - implants
After a mastectomy, some women choose to have cosmetic surgery to re-create their breast. This surgery can be performed during mastectomy itself or later. The breast is usually reshaped in 2 stages, first using a tissue expander and then placement of a saline implant. Sometimes the implant can be inserted in the first stage.
Contraceptive implants and injections
Contraceptive implants and injections are long-acting, effective methods of contraception. They are over 99% reliable in preventing pregnancy, which means that less than one in 100 women who use the implant or injection will become pregnant each year.
Breast reconstruction with breast implants
Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that restores shape to your breast after mastectomy surgery that removes your breast to treat or prevent breast cancer.
Penile implants
Penile implants are devices implanted inside the penis that allow men with erectile dysfunction (ED) to get an erection. Penile implants are also sometimes used to treat Peyronie's disease, a disorder that causes pain or bending of the penis during erections.
Breastfeeding and Breast Implants
Breast augmentation is surgery to make your breasts larger with implants. Silicone (sill-uh-kone) gel-filled or saline-filled implants are the most common kind of breast implants used. Four different methods are used. Two of the methods make an incision (cut) on or around the areola (air-e-o-luh). The areola is the dark part of your breast around your nipple. Some of the milk ducts and the major nerves may have been cut with this type of incision.
Urinary incontinence - collagen implants
Collagen implants are injections done to help control urine leakage that is caused by weak sphincters. Sphincters are muscles that allow your body to hold in urine. If your sphincter muscles stop working well you will have urine leakage. See also: Urinary incontinence
Radioactive seed implants for prostate cancer
Brachytherapy for prostate cancer delivers radiation directly into the prostate with radioactive pellets. This method delivers a higher dose of radiation to the prostate gland than does external beam radiation, while less surrounding tissue is damaged by radiation.
Dental implant surgery
